The shape of the back bottom hull is different from the earlier models. Very wide and tall. I haven't used it yet but I am worried how this hull will get through the shallow Rapids on our river. Our last two Pelicans from Dicks have very sculpted hulls and glide easily and effortlessly thru the shallowest of waters. Note they don't show a photo of the hull from the bottom. I'm excited about the storage space as compared to my earlier models. Maybe I can finally fit a sleeping bag etc. and someone suggested a (small?) dog might even fit upfront - which would be exciting. And I think this model is wide enough to fit even my fattest friends which has been a concern once or twice. We own five sit on tops and love them and would never buy a regular kayak. Oh and our other cheaper kayaks in another brand All have slow leaks and have to be pulled out and drained every two hours or more. None of our pelicans have ever leaked. They must have a better building system or something.

I'm 6'3\" 200 lb. The kayak is great for steady water and light rapids. It's a bit tricky to reach the front compartment and you have to bend a little to reach the back. It's very stable, I am able to stand and squat while on the water. Tracking and durability is great. Very maneuverable in running water. The only two downfalls are 1: I had a battle with a 24\" pike that I had to go inland to unhook. It was a little unstable trying to reel him in and unhook him. 2: during some class 1 and 2 rapids, I took on a lot of water and had to pull off to drain because my back end was submerged. My dad who is 5'8\" 175 lb did not have this problem.

Lost our kayak seat in the lake...called in to buy a new one, they gave me a new...free. Not bad. Plus the teton pro is a really good kayak. Happy customer! Thank you.

I bought one of these kayaks last year to go back and forth to my boat. It is so stable you can stand up and paddle in it. I bought two more since so I can fresh water fish with my two sons.

My next adventure will be fishing with the Kayak. I love sitting on the top of the Kayak instead of getting in one. A lot easier getting out.

I have an older version of this one, and both my sister and sister-in-law just got one of these. They are stable, roomy, and comfortable! We are all beginners and I couldn't have picked a better kayak. Definitely recommended.

My friend and I bought two of these kayaks during the annual boat sale after spending months researching kayaks and taking a few classes. We have only used these about 10 times so far and on a pretty calm lake, but we have been very happy thus far. The pelican mustang tracks very well- way better than I expected for a basic recreational kayak.
The kayak is very stable, goes pretty fast, and is surprisingly light and easy to carry and load onto the top of my car.
As many people have said, The bags it came with are not waterproof and frankly kind of useless since there are bungees in the back to hold anything down that can get wet and you need to buy a dry bag anyway.
The kayak seat is comfortable and the leg room is great, although if you kayak for more than 2 hours at a time you might want to get a cushion for the seat if you don’t have enough natural padding of your own :)
One strange thing with the foot rests is that in my blue one it is adjustable but in the green kayak In the same model it is not. I am not sure if that is how all of them are or if my friend was given an older version of the green one when we bought them.

Finally a word of caution- the first time we took the kayak off the top of my car my friend grabbed the cord at the front it it and it snapped immediately and unfortunately the kayak slipped out of his hand and landed on my side mirror and snapped it off. This only happened with the blue model. I replaced it with a piece of para cord that I had but the cost of replacing my mirror is more than what the kayak cost and after the fact I read some reviews and saw that this has happened to multiple people- so be careful!

Also from experience we have learned it is easiest to load and unload the kayak by sliding or pulling it from the back of the car so I wanted to share that tip. Overall i still think this is a great kayak for newbies and easy recreational kayaking on lakes and calm rivers.
