Bought yesterday. Loads easy with good room for a day trip. Tracks straight and is stable but the seat sucks after an hour or so. I’m a patrol officer so my lower back isn’t the best to start with- but this really does need a higher backed seat to be comfortable.

We finally got our kayaks! However, as great as these are, my husband’s has a dent in the end-underside and mine looks all faded and spotty. Nothing like the photos.

I bought this 2 summers ago and it's my happy place. If I had more money to spend I would have bought the Field & Stream version but for this price it's a great buy. But consider what you're gonna buy as add-ons vs what F&S comes with.
Like most reviews this boat tracks great. I have another small/cheap kayak for my kids and watching them struggle to keep a straight line always reminds me how good this one is. Super stable. Room for all your stuff. Would like to add a better seat, anchor system & paddle mount but overall it's a great purchase.

Over the past weeks, since we purchased our kayaks, we have gone many times, and have had loads of fun. The kayaks are easy to maneuver through the water.

After being on a kayak once, I decided to buy my own. Looked online at what Dick's has to offer then went in the store to check in person and decided to go with the Mustang over the Trailblazer as it is higher quality and has a few more features. Looked at the Swifty as well, but price wise the Mustang seemed like a better deal plus it's lighter to carry. The Mustang paired with good paddles did great on the water, I am satisfied with my purchase.

I bought two of these mustangs about a year ago. The strength of this model is its tracking -- it goes in a straight line very well. You can actually feel/see the kayak correcting itself as it glides through the water after a thrust of the paddle. Another strength of this model is its capacity. Most of the Pelicans I am aware of have a capacity of about 250-275 pounds, while the Mustang has a capacity of 300 pounds. The rear tank well also allows you to strap in gear. I put a big tripping pack in the rear with another pack in between my legs in the cockpit, simulating gear for an overnight or multi-day trip. It all fit well enough. A third advantage is how light it is. I think it's about 36 pounds, which is less than the weight of other sit-on kayaks (this is a sit-in kayak).

The only disadvantage I see with this model is the fact that the rear tank well tends to take on water easily. On a lake with a lot of motorboat wake, you end up with a small to medium amount of water in the tank well, and you can't empty it. Other reviewers indicate you end up with a lot of water if you do white-water kayaking (granted, this model is for slow water and lakes, so it's not really fair to assess it based on a whitewater experience).

Pelican came out with a model that addressed the Mustang's tendency to take on water. This was the Argo 100, which featured scupper (drainage) holds in the tank well. However, the Argo did not track well at all when I tried it out. I would rather take on Mustang water and than paddle the Argo.
